Scholarships

Every year the San Diego County Section of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) awards monetary scholarships to young women enrolling in engineering schools or university engineering programs leading to a first degree in engineering. Each year the number and amount of our scholarships varies, depending on our corporate and member support. This year's scholarship materials are due by April 18, 2008. See below for more information and application forms for incoming college freshmen and continuing college students.
Freshmen Scholarship Information
ELIGIBILITY - Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Be a woman who has been accepted for enrollment in an accredited engineering school, or in a college or university which has an accredited engineering curriculum leading to a first degree in engineering.
- Provide proof of enrollment in the Fall if applicant is a scholarship recipient.
- Have attended a San Diego County High School.
- Complete and send all required documents by the deadline of April 18, 2008.
DEADLINES
- All required materials must be postmarked on or before April 18, 2008.
- All scholarship recipients will be notified by May 9. Interviews of the candidates, if necessary, will be held in April.
APPLICATION - To be accepted for judging, an applicant must submit the following items:

Copy of applicant's transcript(s) showing grades for the entire enrollment in all high schools attended. - Reference Letter
A letter of reference from a math or science teacher, or supervisor (if employed/volunteered in technical position). - Applicant Letter
A statement or letter written by the applicant, addressed to the Scholarship Award Committee, not more than two typewritten pages in length and briefly describing:- Why the applicant would like to be an engineer.
- The applicant's definition of engineering.
- Why the applicant wants/needs this scholarship.
- Any special circumstances, or other information that the applicant would like the Committee to consider.
MAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Continuing Student Scholarship Information
ELIGIBILITY - Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Be a woman enrolled as an engineering student in an accredited college or university in San Diego County.
- Be enrolled in an engineering program in the upcoming fall term; provide proof of enrollment in the fall if applicant is a scholarchip recipient.
- No restrictions are placed on applicants with respect to other scholarships, including other SWE scholarships.
DEADLINES
- All required materials must be postmarked on or before April 18, 2008.
- All scholarship recipients will be notified by May 9. Necessary interviews will be held in April.
APPLICATION - To be accepted for judging, an applicant must submit ALL of the following items:

Copy of applicant's transcript(s) for the entire enrollment in the current and prior colleges or universities. - Letter of Referral
Letter of referral from an engineering professor, an academic advisor or an employer who knows your work. - Applicant Letter
A letter written by the applicant addressed to the Scholarship Award Committee, not more than one typewritten page in length, briefly describing:- Why you chose an engineering major and/or your discipline in particular.
- A challenge where you had to apply your technical and analytic skills.
- Your involvement and leadership roles in SWE or other organizations.
- How you are currently financing your college education.
(Note: The Scholarship Selection Committee places a great deal of emphasis on the Applicant Letter.)
