Society of Women Engineers Exploring Technology
Journey to the Center of the Table

SWE-San Diego is hosting an exciting opportunity for middle school girls (Grades 6-8) to learn about science and technology careers. The annual program, Society of Women Engineers Exploring Technology (SWEET), features four exciting science-based activities where the girls will learn to think like an engineer in a hands-on environment. The theme is titled “Journey to the Center of the Table,” where the participants will learn about how engineering is required for all modern agricultural products often taken for granted, such as mechanical harvesting, food packaging, and water filtration. Girls will interact with local engineers while learning about how food gets from the farm to the dinner table.

SWEet Parent Educator Program (PEP)

While the girls are actively engaged in SWEET, their adult influencers are given the opportunity to attend a parallel program also on campus at SDSU. An educational program for Parents and Educators designed to sustain girls’ Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) interests long after the day-of activity is over.

This is an educational program for Parents and Educators that want to help nourish young women’s interests in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) related fields.  The workshop features information on college admissions, a live panel of professional and collegiate in STEM fields, and information on breaking the stereotypes normally associated with the jobs and professionals in STEM fields.  Teachers, parents, and anyone who works with girls are welcome.
