2. SWENext DesignLab
The SWENext DesignLab Community Engagement Challenge asks teams of high school students to create a hands-on engineering activity for younger students that will help resolve a local issue. The teams will present their proposal to a panel of women engineers during DesignLab at WE Local San Diego, on Saturday, February 1, 2020.
Teams who enter the challenge will have a chance to win $1,000 to implement their project and an all-expense paid trip to SWE’s annual conference, WE20, in New Orleans, Louisiana!

Onsite judges will view the posters and listen to oral presentations that will be presented during the WE Local conference in San Diego. Onsite judges do not need to be registered for the conference to volunteer! Please contact Kristen Yoshida at kyoshida@bchdesign.com if you have any questions.

- Graduate competitions: PhD preferred or MS with 4+ years of work experience
- Undergrad competitions: BS, MS with 1-2+ years of work experience, in last years of PhD program, beginning of PhD program with prior 1-2 years of work experience, or in Post Doc.
Collegiate Competition applications now closed!
The WE Local Collegiate Competition is an excellent opportunity for students to build their resumes and receive direct feedback from other women engineers on their research.
Collegiate Competition Timeline:
- STAGE 1: All students submit and abstract online.
- Limited to one submission per person.
- Deadline: Monday, November 11, 2019.
- STAGE 2: Finalists share their research on a visual poster as well as in a 15-minute lightning talk presentation during their specific WE Local.
- Finalists (three from each Undergrad and Grad) receive recognition and awards during the WE Achieve Awards Ceremony.
