The goal of the SWE-San Diego County Professional Section’s Annual Recognition Program is to recognize the achievements and service of local engineering professionals.

Kathleen Parker

Congratulations to our FY24 Member of the Year!

The SWE-San Diego Member of the Year Award honors a female identifying SWE-San Diego professional member who has consistently engaged with SWE-San Diego activities over the past year, demonstrated leadership excellence and has community involvement.


Kathleen Parker exemplifies the values and spirit of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and has been a significant asset to the SWE-San Diego County Section over the past year. She has consistently participated in various outreach events. She stepped into the role of Corresponding Secretary for the SWE San Diego Executive Council (EC) and handled various responsibilities with ease. Her contributions have truly strengthened our organization.


Aarthi Shankar

Congratulations to our FY24 Outstanding Engineer!

The SWE-San Diego Outstanding Engineer Award honors a local (San Diego County) female identifying person who has been actively engaged in an engineering or technology profession, has demonstrated outstanding technical excellence, and has at least fifteen years of cumulative engineering experience.


Aarthi Shankar’s dedication and technical expertise have consistently contributed to the success and advancement of her projects, making her an asset in the field of engineering. Her professional accomplishments, coupled with her passion for giving back to her community and supporting the future generation of STEM students, exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding engineer and leader, both within her profession and her community. 

Mirella Cruz Trinidad

Congratulations to our FY24 Distinguished New Engineer!

The SWE-San Diego Distinguished New Engineer Award honors a female identifying SWE-San Diego professional member who has been actively engaged in an engineering or technology profession, demonstrated outstanding technical performance, leadership in SWE-San Diego and the community in the first ten years of her career.


Mirella Cruz Trinidad, a Mechanical Engineer in San Diego, specializes in Transmission and Distribution Line Engineering, impacting California communities as a Transmission Line Designer at RDQ, Inc.Additionally, she serves as Outreach Committee Co-Chair for the Society of Women Engineers, championing diversity. Currently awaiting her Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, she aims to secure her Professional Engineer License, advancing her career trajectory while actively supporting STEM education initiatives.

Emerald Trejo

Congratulations to our FY24 Outreach Volunteer of the Year!

The SWE-San Diego Outreach Volunteer of the Year Award honors a  female identifying SWE-San Diego professional member who has been  actively engaged in the advancement of Science, Technology,  Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields as a desirable career option  for K-12 girls.


Since joining SWE-San Diego at the end of last year, Emerald Trejo has dedicated over 50 hours to Outreach events. She has served as a speaker, participated as a hackathon judge, and engaged in various on-site activities that promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields as appealing career options for female-identifying students. Remarkably, she continued to volunteer throughout her entire pregnancy with her son Theodore, demonstrating her unwavering commitment.

Stacy Ganzer

Congratulations to our FY24 Outstanding Educator!

The SWE-San Diego Outstanding Educator Awards honor an individual(s) in  education who goes above and beyond to inspire the next generation of  female-identifying explorers and innovators in science, technology,  engineering, and mathematics in any grade level (kindergarten through  collegiate).


Stacy Ganzer is a devoted educator committed to cultivating positive relationships with educational partners, including colleagues, parents, students, and the broader community. Since 2000, she has served as an elementary school teacher within the Escondido Union Elementary School District, both as a general education teacher and currently as a special education instructor. Over the last six years, she has been working to promote robotics education in her community. She is passionate about bringing hands-on STEM education to all students, believing in its transformative power to ignite creativity and love of learning.

Dr. Marta Miletic

Congratulations to our FY24 Diversity Champion - Individual!

The SWE-San Diego Diversity Champion Award honors a local (San  Diego County) individual who have been actively engaged in the  Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for women in STEM and has consistently  been an advocate for SWE’s Mission: 


Marta Miletic, Assistant Professor at SDSU, excels in advanced construction materials and technologies, and champions diversity in STEM. She uplifts underrepresented communities, enhancing opportunities for Native American and Hispanic groups. Marta also champions gender diversity, serving as a faculty advisor for SWE-SDSU and facilitating programs for women in engineering. Marta’s initiatives include organizing educational events aimed at empowering minority students. Her efforts have earned her recognition such as the NASA’s Space Tech Catalyst Diversity Prize.

Solar Turbines

The SWE-San Diego Diversity Champion Award honors a local (San  Diego County) company that has been actively engaged in the Diversity,  Equity and Inclusion for women in STEM and has consistently been an  advocate for SWE’s Mission:


Dedicated to Diversity Equity and Inclusion and with employees represented in over 50 countries around the world, Solar Turbines has over 15 Employee Resource Groups which promote, educate, and connect diverse backgrounds. In San Diego, Solar has worked with schools in underrepresented communities and invited students to the facilities to learn about the vast career options that exist in STEM.  Solar likes to say “you can’t be it if you can’t see it.”
