The goal of the SWE-San Diego County Professional Section’s Annual Recognition Program is to recognize the achievements and service of local engineering professionals.

Congratulations FY22 SWE-San Diego Professional Award Winners!

Congratulations to our FY22 Member of the Year!

The SWE-San Diego Member of the Year Award honors a female identifying SWE-San Diego professional member who has consistently engaged with SWE-San Diego activities over the past year, demonstrated leadership excellence and has community involvement.

Rachelle (Dumaguing) Aguas has been increasingly involved in SWE-San Diego since 2020, currently holding the Member Engagement committee chair, and will be the Corresponding Secretary on the Executive Council for FY23. In addition to organizing and hosting monthly in person events, she also has participated and actively promoted our professional development opportunities as well as supported the banquet committee this year. She is a technical writer/editor with an English degree who works with STEM professionals at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc., is passionate about supporting women in STEM, applies her experience, positive energy, and inclusive mindset to SWE-SD.

Congratulations to our FY22 Outstanding Engineer!

The SWE-San Diego Outstanding Engineer Award honors a local (San Diego County) female identifying person who has been actively engaged in an engineering or technology profession, has demonstrated outstanding technical excellence, and has at least fifteen years of cumulative engineering experience.

Over her 27+ year career at Solar Turbines, Aileen Fahme’s focus on the customer and the desire to make a difference has propelled her to be the admired leader and key contributor she is today not only at work but also within her community. Aileen is an outstanding engineer with a strong track record as a project applications engineer who lovingly volunteers her time through outreach to develop existing talent and inspire the next generation.

Congratulations to our FY22 Distinguished New Engineer!

The SWE-San Diego Distinguished New Engineer Award honors a female identifying SWE-San Diego professional member who has been actively engaged in an engineering or technology profession, demonstrated outstanding technical performance, leadership in SWE-San Diego and the community in the first ten years of her career.

Neta Glaser demonstrates her technical excellence while leading R&D projects at Medtronic and embodies a strong drive and passion for giving back to the community through her leadership of involvement in SWE as the Chair of the Professional Development Committee, and her mentorship role in Women in Bio panels, entrepreneurship programs, and hackathons.

Congratulations to our FY22 Outreach Volunteer of the Year!

The SWE-San Diego Outreach Volunteer of the Year Award honors a  female identifying SWE-San Diego professional member who has been  actively engaged in the advancement of Science, Technology,  Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields as a desirable career option  for K-12 girls.

Dr. Tracy Nguyen is a champion of STEM Diversity and passionate outreach advocate who wholeheartedly embraces SWE’s mission. She believes it is critical to pique children’s interest in STEM in elementary/middle school and to continue to cultivate this interest through high school. She advances women in engineering as evidenced by her work with underrepresented and marginalized communities. For a more sustainable future, she believes women and BIPOC need to have a voice at the table to have rich and varied perspectives.

The SWE-San Diego Outstanding Educator Award honors an individual in  education who goes above and beyond to inspire the next generation of  female-identifying explorers and innovators in science, technology,  engineering, and mathematics in any grade level (kindergarten through  collegiate).

Khamphet Pease is an enthusiastic STEM educator of 16 years at Wilson Middle School in the San Diego Unified School District. She pioneered the school’s award-winning Robotics Club where the students convene outside of school hours to learn how to design, build, engineer, and program robots for various competitions throughout the year. For her dedication and commitment to her students, she was recently awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) award from the White House.

Congratulations to our FY22 Diversity Champion - Individual!

The SWE-San Diego Diversity Champion Award honors a local (San  Diego County) individual who have been actively engaged in the  Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for women in STEM and has consistently  been an advocate for SWE’s Mission: 

Debra Kimberling, president of the San Diego County Engineering Council, has been a strong advocate for women in engineering throughout her 30-year SWE San Diego membership. She is a SWE Fellow who is engaged in multiple projects that promote SWE and SWENext in the greater San Diego STEM community. She has significantly improved the visibility of diverse STEM role models and continues to raise awareness of their achievements.

The SWE-San Diego Diversity Champion Award honors a local (San  Diego County) company that has been actively engaged in the Diversity,  Equity and Inclusion for women in STEM and has consistently been an  advocate for SWE’s Mission:

With over 5,000 associates in the San Diego area across 5 business units, Becton Dickinson proudly supports local DE&I efforts internally and externally with the support of their 8 Associate Resource Groups. They are proud of their outreach efforts that are driving change, especially with respect to nurturing early  age interest in STEM as well as attracting and retaining women in STEM  at all stages of their career.
